Taylor
Chevrolet Co., LLC opened its doors for business on September 3,
2002. The dealership was purchased by George Jr. and Connie Taylor
from Bill Gleason who had owned the business, Gleason Chevrolet,
since July 1960.
George Taylor
Jr. grew up in the car business. His father, George Taylor Sr.,
started working for Strong Bros. Chevrolet in Humboldt, NE in 1951.
In October 1962, George Sr. bought the dealership from Merle Strong
and Taylor Chevrolet Co. was formed.
George Jr.,
was fascinated with Chevrolet cars and trucks. At the age of 13
he overhauled his first engine, a 216 6 cyl., in his grandfathers
'46 Chevy Coupe. At the age of 14 he overhauled a 283 V-8 engine
and installed it in a '58 Impala 2 dr. Hard Top, his first car.
In 1975, George
Sr. sold Taylor Chevrolet in Humboldt. By 1985, the Taylor's were
wanting to own a Chevrolet dealership again. In July of 1986, George
Jr. approached Bill Gleason about purchasing his dealership, Gleason
Chevrolet. Mr. Gleason wasn't quite ready to sell. In October of
2001, George Jr. again asked Mr. Gleason if he was ready to sell
and this time the answer was yes.
George Jr. and
his wife Connie (Johnson) Taylor are familiar with the Seneca area.
Connie is a graduate of Wetmore High School and George Jr. is a
graduate of Humboldt High School. They would come to Seneca and
go to the theater, Freddy's Pizza Palace, and a dance or two at
the American Legion. They even got their Marriage License at the
Nemaha County Courthouse.
"Seneca
is a good community and the people around the area are good people,"
stated George Jr. "we've wanted to be a part of Seneca and
have felt welcome ever since we have got here."
